Your heart is the most important part of who you are, directing you towards what is right or wrong. It helps you to make decisions. So, you want to make the right decisions, don’t you?

The heart is something beyond a machine that pumps blood. It’s more important than that. The very springs of life pump from it, according to Proverbs. The heart enables us to discern what is right and wrong.

Difference between right and wrong

Knowing what is right and wrong is not always easy. It depends on one’s values. What is right, then? Something that’s good? Maybe, but not every seemingly good thing is right. Evil things can be mistaken for good. A person can practice evil thinking it’s good.

Look at Eve in the garden!

Can you see how she was persuaded by what appeared to be good only because it would bring benefits in the immediate?

That’s why it’s vital to protect the border of our hearts. What we allow into our hearts guides our choices, little by little, and therefore guides the direction of our lives.

To make better decisions, we must feed our hearts with what is good.

So, the question is how do we know what is evil or good?

Protection for the heart

Evil is something below God’s standard. So, how do we protect our hearts?

Since God has the book of knowledge for all of us, we need to read it. We need to incline the heart to His Words. We ought to seek His will through His Word.

When we’re exposed to what He says is right, it can sometimes clash with our opinions. We need to open our ears, open our eyes wide and receive. Then, the heart will revere God and will have the power to choose right.

What is right is more excellent than good.

Once we discern what’s right and wrong, it’s not enough. We need to rely on God’s grace to help us live right.

Wrapping it up

Everyone is exposed to what is right and wrong every day. Therefore, we need to spend time in the Word so to help us make the right decisions. Our hope is, when we make the wrong decisions, God has provided a way for our forgiveness. Not that it’s a licence to do what is wrong but there is a solution He has in place. Aren’t you glad about that?

ACTION: Protect the door of your heart through your ears and eyes.
