Tip #1 Plan

Plan your work and work your plan.

Schedule your time in your calendar ahead of time based on your vision and goals.

Begin with an idea you’re comfortable with. As a writer or blogger, grab an idea from your pool of ideas.

If this is not available, find something to write about.

If you need to do any research, do this during the planning process so you’re not distracted when you write or work on your project.

Tip #2 Quiet time

Protect your scheduled time as if it’s your baby.

Close all your internet browsers. You want to avoid all distraction.

Close your email.

No pop ups. No open app or notification from the apps.

Place your phone on silent mode.

If necessary, inform your loved one closer to you you’re placing your phone on silent. This helps them know you don’t want them to disturb you but you will be contactable when you complete your task. It gives you peace of mind. You don’t want to monitor the phone every minute.

Avoid access to electronics and people who may disrupt you till you complete your task.

Keep only the main program you need to write or do your other creative work open.

Tip #3 Outline your Idea

If you write articles, blog posts, devotionals, books or else keep a reusable template. What do I mean by that? Use the model of an old piece of work with the formatted title, subtitle and paragraph to save you time.

Now jot down what you will write about with bullet points.

When you outline, you do all the skeleton work in advance and it makes it easy on you, particularly for a non-fiction writer.

By the time you complete this idea, you will have all your titles, subtitles and paragraphs in front of you.

Tip #4 Use words to lead you to victory

Don’t open your mouth to say, ‘I can’t write.’ Even if you’re not in the zone, open your mouth and say, ‘I’m about to have a great time writing or working on this project. I will create something amazing.’ You can say something else, as long as you open your mouth to use power words to proclaim something positive , it will motivate you.

Tip #5 Ready to Write or work on your project

Are you ready to write your piece? Or to work on whatever project you chose without disruption?

Now that you’ve planned your piece of work, you’re quiet and your mind is on your work, you’re in the zone.

Stay focused.

Can you see how planning and monitoring your time help?

Go to your outlined piece.

Start writing now. Keep going till you’re done!

Unless it’s a big project like a book or something else, it’s easy to complete your piece in one sitting.

Tip #6 Edit

After completion, edit the piece.

Use ProWritingAid to save you time. There are other editing tools out there but that’s what I use.

Tip #7 Polish

If it’s a blog, go over your piece. Add your picture if you’ve already chose one. If you didn’t choose one during your planning process, find one.

Polish again.

Are you good to go?

I don’t know how many times you’ll polish your work but remember the quote,

‘Done is better than perfect.’

I’m not sure who said that.

Wrapping up

This method will help you focus and get your work done. That’s how you increase productivity.
