#1 Giving back to Society

As a mentor, you share what you know and walk alongside someone on their journey. You listen to them if it’s applicable. You can only give what you know. You don’t need to give them the direct answer. Point them to the answer as a guide. Let them decide for themselves. There are many ways to guide others. As a guide, you help them make the right decision. Remember, if you look back, you can name people who have mentored you in the past. I can too. Maybe it’s an online mentor, a teacher, an author, a blogger, a podcaster, a family member, a pastor, a counselor, someone at work or someone else. We can all name someone who mentored us.

#2 Don’t waste your Life Lessons

When you use your life lessons to help someone, it saves them from making the same mistake you made. They learn faster from you than from their mistakes.

Someone will thank you for sharing your life lessons.

You don’t need a title to mentor someone. All you need is to be willing to.

#3 Add value to lives

You can make a difference with who you are and what you’ve got.

When you mentor someone, who knows how far your help extends to? You may think you’re helping one person but who knows if you’re helping a family, or a community, a city or even a nation. It all depends on their future and level of influence.

#4 Help someone on their journey

Imagine you help a young mum. She has two kids. Because of your help, her life improves. In addition, but this impacts her family as well. So, can you see the ripple effect?

Whichever way you choose to mentor someone or people, your help can go a long way.

#5 Joy

When someone mentors, it brings joy.

There’s no greater love than giving your time and knowledge to someone else.

Whether you volunteer or you get paid to do so, go for it! Remember, you can only give your best. Giving brings joy into the life of the giver. God blesses a giver as well.

#6 Personal Growth

As you develop someone else, in return you learn more. As you walk alongside them, you can also rescue them from danger or emotional struggle or any other battle. Can you see how a mentor gets to grow in return?

#7 Gifts and talents

Everyone has gifts and talents. When a mentor guides someone to use their gifts and talents, they can become greater than that mentor depending on their life purpose.

As a mentee develops their potential, they can create opportunities, they get to become somebody. Who knows how far they can go?

Friend, this is how we can have a better world. Help others overcome their weaknesses. Encourage others, help them win.

You won’t be able to help everyone in this world, only God can. Yet, you can do something for somebody.

When you mentor, you get to make a difference where you can.

Wrapping up

To mentor someone, use your ears to listen carefully, spend time with them if applicable, share your knowledge and your life lessons. Your hope should be that someone will learn from your mistakes or knowledge. Help someone develop their potential.

“If you don’t share what you know, you might never develop into the person you were born to be.”

ACTION: List your gifts and talents. Choose one thing you can do to make a difference in someone else’s life. Decide on your next step so you can take action.
