CS Lewis was an atheist. It has been reported that more than 200 million copies of his book are sold. While alive, he was successful. However, he impacted many more lives after he’s left us.

His experience about life led him to believe there was no God. I would say the painful aspects of his life affected his belief.

CS Lewis was also known as Jack. He wanted to be named after his dog Jacksie. After Jacksie got run over in his childhood, he would not answer if they didn’t call him Jack.

Jack lost his mother at only nine. She had cancer. His father was a lawyer. He was then sent to boarding school. What looks taboo to us was not back there. It was a different era. We don’t advocate it was the best choice yet we don’t know everything about what was going on. In addition, cancer affected Joy, the woman he fell in love with.

“CS Lewis married Joy in hospital.”

CS Lewis was into philosophy – he had many things to figure out. Yet, God probably didn’t tell him why; neither was he responsible for what happened. Lewis was one of the most influential intellectual of his time. Born in 1898; he spent much of his time at his desk doing his life’s works.

He was a knowledgeable man and one of the best writers ever. He worked at Oxford University as a professor. In 1991 he devoted the rest of his working life to writing.

Lewis was also injured in war.

His friend, also an author JFF Tolkien influenced his life. Among others, Tolkien challenged CS Lewis’ unbelief in God. Lewis also discovered the author of his favourite books believed in God. Later on, CS Lewis believed God and followed him.

CS Lewis has finally found the truth.  God is real. What’s admirable about Lewis was that he had the courage to dare to share he has changed his beliefs. Imagine Lewis airing the truth on the famous radio show where he used to voice out his opinion.

No one discusses the problem of pain better than CS Lewis in his book ‘The Problem of Pain’.

When a person believes deeply in God, it shifts their perspective about life and pain. There is more to pain than the earthly perspective. There’s someone greater than life itself—God.

Lewis used his literary gifts to enlighten many people, to comfort them.

The way a person responds to adversity matters.

From a human point of view, we may think what is happening to us is unfair. Yet, in the light of eternity, the earthly suffering is nothing. No one welcomes suffering but a spiritual perspective helps us to get through things by faith.

“His plan for our lives is greater than we can imagine.”

Born in Ireland CS Lewis’ passion for words coupled with discipline enabled him to pen thirty books before he breathed his last breath in 1963 in Oxford, England. It was a life worth living. CS Lewis lived a meaningful life, added value to numerous lives.

The comfort he offers with his words continues long after he’s gone. His philosophical approach leads people to think through the big questions of life and therefore to find the insights they need about God.

If you don’t believe in God, tell us why. Or why do you believe in him despite adversity?
