How to Defeat Doubt and Live by Faith

When you drive to go somewhere and you’re not sure of the direction, does it make you sweat? Some people can rely on the GPS while others hate to trust an electronic voice telling them where to go.  That’s why for some people the doubt that this electronic device may not be taking them where they want could sound awful. Another person could face the same situation but they settle and trust that those things would be all right. Both are in the same circumstance; yet doubt unsettles one person while the other one trusts they will reach their destination with the help of the GPS.

When you’re working on what you dream of seeing happen, sometimes things won’t go well. Unfortunately, it happens to everybody.  How do you overcome the feeling of uncertainty? When you face a circumstance, do you second-guess yourself and the situation? Know that everyone faces doubt. It’s how we handle the doubt that matters. Do you doubt too often or do you live life by faith?

Why defeat Doubt?

Doubts can make a person waver. Wavering comes from listening to two different voices in your head and not knowing which one to choose. Which way do you choose ? Left of right? Doubt can make you become double-minded. When a person is double-minded, not only is it hard for them but for God. What do you want out of life? Make up your mind and work at getting it. That’s where vision comes in and can help you. Once you take time to think through what you want out of life and draw your vision out of your heart, you will then be able to go full blast, single-minded on what you’re after. To be single-minded, it depends on you and your thoughts.

Ways to defeat Doubt

Work on your thoughts

Pay attention to the thoughts dropping into your mind. It’s important to have a plan against doubt. Be proactive and you’ll defeat it. When something goes wrong, the first thing we all want to do is to find someone to tell about what we feel and complain. The last thing you want to do is to obey that thought and speak words of doubt into your situation.

“Be quick at finding words to contradict your doubt.”

The Power of Words

Don’t sit there and let doubts take over.  You’re more than likely not to feel faith.  What if I tell you you don’t have to feel the faith? Speak words of faith even if you don’t feel like it. When you act you will defeat the thoughts that try to bring doubt into your life. Then, you will be energized by faith as you proceed that way. Hearing yourself speak words of faith will make believe those words as you keep going. There is power through spoken words. That’s how you manage your thoughts to stay in faith.

Mentoring

Find a mentor who can inspire you. Everyone needs a mentor. The person being mentored may not call it a mentor but everyone looks up to someone for further strength and motivation. They may know the person well or they may not. Yet, they have one mentor or a few people they can trust to help them stay motivated.

“Even a mentor has a mentor too to keep them strong. “

A mentor will help motivate you. They may have keys in a certain area to share with you. For you to find help for motivation it doesn’t have to be face-to-face but let someone sow into your life somehow. Don’t focus on your mentor’s imperfection as none of them are flawless. Everyone is human. However, find somebody to speak truth into your life.

Motivation

Never wait to be so unmotivated towards your vision to get help, be proactive. They will encourage you to challenge your own weaknesses. There are many ways to work on your motivation. Information is everywhere in writing in the form of books; a quick read like a blog post, an article or something else. You can also listen to messages in many forms to stay strong.

Misunderstanding about your Vision

When people in your environment don’t understand your vision, you can second-guess yourself. The closer they are to you, the harder you have to fight against your environment. While they may not understand your vision, this doesn’t mean they don’t accept you. Sometimes, people are heading towards a different direction than you are. They can be great and loving without understanding what you perceive for your future.

Familiarity

People who are familiar with you may not always see your strengths. So, familiarity can lead to a lack of respect towards you. They may not appreciate your uniqueness.

“As for you, embrace your uniqueness.”

Everyone is unique but sometimes some people adapt and work at fitting in so much that they lose their true personality. So, be you.

Who are you assigned to?

You are not assigned to everybody. And not everyone will like you. Face this fact so you don’t doubt your vision. Work by faith for those who welcome what you have to offer.

Should grudge win?

Don’t bear a grudge against those who can’t understand your vision; know that sometimes you may misunderstand what others are doing and where they are going with their lives too. So, don’t take it personally because you can if you’re not careful. Not accepting your vision doesn’t mean not accepting you. So, best thing is to not hold a grudge against them and move forward.

Don’t doubt your vision because someone doesn’t understand what you’re on about.”

Keep your Enthusiasm

Happiness and joy are different. For example, if someone enjoys playing tennis, they’re happy when they are playing and particularly when they win. Joy is different. Joy is from your inner man. A tennis player with joy will not give up just because an opponent won. Joy is there on good days and bad days. Joy is God-given. It lingers when there is contentment about where you are at. It doesn’t mean you don’t want change.

“While you work at seeing change, your inner self leaps with joy.”

Stay enthusiastic about life and your vision and your own life becomes more pleasant.  Whenever you feel there’s a lack of sparks, don’t sit there and do nothing. Be determined to keep your level of enthusiasm in check.

Complaining

We’ve all complained. Complaints can feel good as you get to tell others what you don’t like.  When a person complains, it takes away joy. There’s a difference between complaining and gratitude. Complaints bring doubts while gratitude brings faith. So, be thankful and reap its benefits. Gratitude helps you to lighten up and continue to walk by faith. This applies to your vision too. Be thankful for where you’re at.

Relevance

Take a positive outlook on what you heard others say about your vision. Reject with grace what you don’t agree with. What can you take on board? Use the criticism to improve where possible. Stay relevant and change your ways of doing things where possible. However, don’t change who you are and your values so your vision will be accepted. Be true to yourself by staying true to the principles you value. Do what works for this generation.

Stay in the Game

Stay in the game if you know that’s where you should be. If in doubt, review your goals, change some of them. Have doable goals but challenging enough. Work on your craft. Be consistent. This will help you stay in the game.

Patience matters. Patience is a helpful virtue that helps you work on something over and over again.  Be patient with yourself.

The antidote to doubt

Remember those you are assigned to. You will reap a harvest from your work with time. Do what you do with passion; focus on assisting others and you will make a difference. As you keep pushing through, you do it by faith.

“Activate your faith through your life works.”

The mentor of all mentors

Last but not least, access the mentors of all mentors—spend time with God and follow his instructions. Learn to trust him. Live by faith rather than by what you see. Before you get the expected outcome, you need to keep going by faith. Even when you don’t see enough with your eyes, everything is worked out for good. God can do greater than you can imagine.

Conclusion

Once you get used to live by faith, it becomes your lifestyle. Be single-minded to be able to focus on your goals in line with your vision. You know what you want out of life and you work towards it. It also arms you with patience and perseverance.

ACTION: Make a list of words that uplift you. Speak positive words into your life to activate your faith. You’ll see the difference it makes.
